Marte Heian-Engdal holds a PhD in international history from the University of Oslo and a Master in Middle East and Central Asian Security Studies from StAndrews University. She has worked as Associate Professor in History at the University of Oslo and as Senior Researcher at the Peace Research Institute in Oslo (PRIO). Her research and teaching here focused on Modern Middle East history, the Arab-Israeli conflict in particular, the Palestinian refugee problem and US Middle East policy. She has published several academic works, both books and journal articles, as well as a regular foreign policy column in the Norwegian daily Dagsavisen. Marte is also a member of the Nordic Women Mediators-Norway.
